Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4: Premium audio meets premium pricing

The audiophile's wireless earbuds

Sennheiser's Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds are squarely aimed at listeners who prioritise sound quality above all else. At £249.99, they're asking serious money for what they claim is an audiophile experience without wires. The question is whether they can justify that premium over Samsung's Galaxy Buds3 Pro at £179 or Jabra's Elite 10 Gen 2 at £199.99.

Design and build quality

The fabric-covered charging case feels distinctly premium, wrapped in what Sennheiser calls "signature fabric" with aluminium accents. It's undeniably attractive, though the fabric does attract pocket lint like nobody's business. The case itself is chunky – noticeably larger than Samsung's offering – but the Qi wireless charging pad on the bottom is perfectly positioned.

The earbuds themselves are compact at 6g each, lighter than many competitors, with an ergonomic design that sits comfortably for extended listening sessions. The IP54 rating provides adequate protection against sweat and light rain, though it's not quite the IP57 you'll find on the Jabra Elite 10 Gen 2.

Build quality feels solid throughout, though the fabric case does make me worry about long-term durability compared to more conventional hard plastics.

Performance

This is where Sennheiser justifies the asking price. The 7mm TrueResponse transducers deliver genuinely impressive audio quality that stands clearly above both Samsung and Jabra alternatives. The frequency response of 5Hz-21kHz provides exceptional range, and you can hear it – bass extension is deep without being muddy, whilst treble detail sparkles without harshness.

The real star is aptX Lossless support, delivering genuine CD-quality wireless audio when paired with compatible Android devices. This is a meaningful advantage over competitors – Samsung's own codec sounds good but doesn't quite match this level of detail, whilst Jabra relies on standard aptX Adaptive.

iPhone users miss out on aptX Lossless but still benefit from well-tuned AAC implementation. The difference in audio quality compared to AirPods Pro is immediately apparent – Sennheiser's tuning favours a more natural, less processed sound signature.

Noise cancellation is competent rather than class-leading. The Anti-Wind mode works well for outdoor activities, reducing wind noise effectively, but overall ANC performance trails behind what Samsung achieves with the Galaxy Buds3 Pro. It's perfectly adequate for flights and commuting, just not exceptional.

Key features deep-dive

Battery life delivers exactly what Sennheiser promises: 7.5 hours from the earbuds plus 30 hours total with the case. That's competitive with Jabra's offering and slightly ahead of Samsung's 6-hour earbud battery life.

Fast charging works well – 15 minutes provides roughly 2 hours of playback, whilst the USB-C port charges the full case in under 90 minutes. Wireless charging is convenient, though slower at around 3 hours for a full charge.

The Sennheiser Smart Control app provides extensive EQ customisation with a clean, intuitive interface. The adaptive EQ feature automatically adjusts sound based on your environment, though I found the manual presets more consistent. Call quality is clear thanks to the four-microphone array, easily matching the Jabra for business calls.

Bluetooth 5.4 provides rock-solid connectivity with minimal dropouts, and codec support is comprehensive: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Lossless, and future-ready LC3.

Value vs competitors

Here's where things get tricky. The Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro at £179 offer superior noise cancellation, better integration with Android devices, and impressive audio quality of their own. They're £70 cheaper whilst delivering 90% of what most users actually need.

Jabra's Elite 10 Gen 2 at £199.99 splits the difference, offering excellent call quality, superior water resistance, and more comprehensive smart features. Their audio quality is very good, just not quite at Sennheiser's level.

The Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds are undeniably the best sounding of the three, but that £50-70 premium demands you really care about audio fidelity. For casual listeners, Samsung's offering represents better value. For business users prioritising call quality, Jabra makes more sense.

Verdict

Sennheiser has created genuinely excellent wireless earbuds that deliver on their core promise of audiophile-grade sound quality. The aptX Lossless support, careful tuning, and premium materials justify the asking price for listeners who prioritise audio above all else.

However, the competition is fierce at this price point. Samsung offers better noise cancellation and smart features for less money, whilst Jabra provides superior durability and call quality. The Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds excel specifically at music reproduction but trail in other areas that many users value equally.

If you're an audio enthusiast who wants the best possible wireless sound quality, these earbuds deliver. For everyone else, the Samsung Galaxy Buds3 Pro offer better overall value. The Sennheiser premium is real, but so is the premium you'll pay for it.
